Caleb Bradham was a pharmacist who developed Pepsi and created the name Pepsi-Cola in 1898. He patented the recipe in 1903 and the Pepsi Cola Company was incorporated in 1919 in Delaware. Bradham declared bankruptcy in 1923 mainly due to problems of sugar shortage after WWI and went back to his pharmacies in North Carolina. The trade marks and patents were acquired by Craven Holding Corporation in that year and passed through several more hands until PepsiCo was created in 1965.
